Since the early '90's paramilitary forces have forced farmers off their land. An estimated 6,000 square miles have been siezed, often at gunpoint. President Uribe promised the return, but many in his govt are championing policies that will allow the elite who have ended up in control of the land to keep it. Farmers who have spoken up have been threatened and some killed or crippled.
