Peso gains on favorable S&P rating

After Standard & Poor raised Colombia's foreign credit rating, the benchmark local bonds and the peso soared to their biggest gains in almost two months. "The upgrade injects optimism in a market that had been falling recently due to external volatility and inflation concerns" according to a senior financial spokesman.

Aquaculture Debates Cages vs Ponds

Following the drought in southern Colombia which caused an estimated 3 million cage-raised tilapia to die Norbert Sporns states that this tragedy sadly highlights the debate on which is better: cage raised or pond raised fish. In an uncontrolled environment there are dangers such as seen in Colombia.

Colombia's Mennonites Call On Other Congregations

On May 20, 2007 Colombia's Mennonite churches are calling on congregations in Canada and the United States for a unified cry for justice. Thousands of people are dying and millions have been left homeless and the churches in Canada and the U.S. have been petitioned to worship, reflect and pray for victims, perpetrators and peacemakers.

Sixteen of Guayabero Tribe Injured

The Guayaberose established their reserve after fleeing their traditional territory because of the violence of Colombia's drug wars. Today a Guayabero boy found a mine left on the reserve by soldiers from Colombia's Special Forces School. Unfortunately the mine exploded and killed sixteen members of the Tribe. This is not the first incident on the reserve.

Outlook On Colombia's S&P Rating is Stable

S&P (Standard & Poor) have increased Colombia's foreign credit rating to BB+. This took place because of economic growth boosting tax revenues. S&P also stated its outlook on Colombia's rating is stable because of robust economic growth and better adminstration on taxes.

$3.9 Billion In Aid In Question

After Washington has pumped $4 billion into "Plan Colombia" since 2000 they a "para-political" scandal has them questioning the $3.9 billion requested in new aid. President Alvaro Uribe is involved in a scandal which ties his allies to paramilitary gangs.
