Colombia, Ecuador bilateral relations still weak a year later

A year after the tension between Colombia and Ecuador erupted, tensions are still high between the two countries.

Since taking up his position, President Uribe or Colombia has taken on an aggressive campaign against the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC), which is classified by the US and the European Union as terrorists.

The campaign has been effective at weakening the movement, but left Colombia's relations with Argentina and Ecuador weak, due to the former's accusations that the two mentioned countries are sympathetic to the FARC.

Uribe in a wiretapping scandal

President Alvaro Uribe may be in Colombians' good books right now because of his US-backed crackdown of leftist rebels, but the recent illegal wiretapping scandal might tarnish his records.

He was accused of hiring agents that will illegally bug government officials, opposition lawmakers, journalists and magistrates, which has drawn criticism from various groups.

UN to donate $5 million to combat poverty in Colombia

The United Nations announced that they will be donating $5 million to combat poverty and hunger in one of Colombia's poorest regions, Choco.

A top UN humanitarian official, John Holmes, will be conducting a visit to the region to oversee the implementation of humanitarian and anti-poverty projects, UN officials in Colombia said in a local radio station.

Holmes will be visiting the municipalities of Condoto, Istmina, Bebedo and Quibdo, where most of the residents are of African origin.

Drug Business to New Depths

Illegal drugs is the number one menace which aids in the destruction of lives of the youth and families who patronize such illegal merchandise. Though most government will stop at nothing to eradicate the distribution of this controlled medicine there are still those who dare and scheme these products off to a drop off.
